I had this album on vinyl when it first came out. Excellent album. This is
my favorite song from Mars Hotel.

For me, the greatest Dead song. Beautiful, technically grand, lyrically
profound.

I first listened to this tripping at a friends house when it first came
out.. Went straight out and bought the album as soon as I came down.

"Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance
and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted
for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained."
There 's an element of truth in every idea that lasts long enough to be
called corny.

Phil also contributed "Pride of Cucamonga."

This is definitely one of my favorite Dead songs. With Phil Lesh on vocals
and bass, it is a beautiful tune with great guitar work by Jerry Garcia.

My very 1st dead album. I thought "Mars Hotel"...must be way trippy! Not
really. But for me the perfect place to start. Really this album is the
intro into "modern dead". If I would have bought the 1st album first, I
would've been like "whaaat"? Or Anthem. Or Live Dead. It would have been too
much to process. This album eases you into Grateful Dead lore like a warm
sunny day and offers you an ice cold glass of sweet tea.

Blue light rain Whoa, unbroken chain Looking for familiar faces In an empty
window pane Listening for the secret Searching for the sound But I could
only hear the preacher And the baying of his hounds Willow sky Whoa, I walk
and wonder why They say love your brother But you will catch it when you try
Roll you down the line boy Drop you for a loss Ride you out on a cold
railroad And nail you to a cross November and more As I wait for the score
They're telling me forgiveness Is the key to every door A slow winder day A
night like forever Sink like a stone Float like a feather Lilac rain,
unbroken chain Song of the saw-whet owl Out on the mountain, it'll drive you
insane Listening to the winds howl Unbroken chain of sorrow and pearls
Unbroken chain of sky and sea Unbroken chain of the western wind Unbroken
chain of you and me

1

leshtricity 11 anni fa
Oh my bad. I always thought this was recorded way later and added to the
album as a bonus track. I knew they never played it live except in '95. Just
because I'm 23 doesn't mean shit. Don't rag on the younger 'heads...we're
keeping the scene alive. Remember that.

And then after a few seconds it was like........omg....I know this. After
that, I was just mesmerized. I'm glad I was finally able to see them after
so many years..........I was sitting at the opposite end of the stadium and
could hear everything perfectly. I'll never forget it.

much going on in it. P.S. saw them in lajolla. Cal this summer. My memories
fuzzy tho....lol.

eaglewingpalace 7 anni fa
Ugly Rumors Many think it refers to the fact that the Dead would soon stop
touring for an indeterminate period of time. But most probably figured that
out after they did in fact suspend touring in October of that year...

Anybody else think Phil's got a surprisingly beautiful voice. He definitely
doesn't look like he'd sing as soft and smooth as he does.

I use to play this song every Thanksgiving night. A song of family and
memory. In 2008, my vet gave my beloved pet bird two months to live. It was
a hard month. On Thanksgiving night I was driving Home, and I prayed for a
miracle. And I got a feeling of warmth, and I had a feeling, a feeling of
renewed hope. I asked God to give me two more years with Sunshine. Well, God
didn't do that. Instead he gave me five and a half. I'm crying as I write
this .I lost my Dad in 2013, I lost my Sunshine as well. This is the first
tome I've played this song since. Yeah, I'm all man and I'm crying. If you
can't cry over love and loss, family and memories, than mister there's
something missing out of you. Tonight this song was a beautiful memory of
release...Tom Struska. Thanksgiving 2019

to wait years to hear it again and call in to get the actual song title. It

phishphreak77 11 anni fa
a surround mix of this would be unbelievable. really explores the jazzy &
mature sound the dead were capable at their peak. phil is the shit and this
tune is proof of that!

Yea. They didn't like to play it live because they didn't have the same
sound effects that they produced in the studio. Phil Lesh and Friends play
this tune a lot though. And yea good point. Us young deadheads rock. I grew
up on this stuff man...but he's right, we gotta do our homework to sound
official.

leshtricity 11 anni fa
Um, sorry man this song was never on a GD album. Especially not one in 1974!
This is like '94 or '95 in the studio.
